Saif-Kareena Married?

There are rumours that Saif and Kareena have tied the knot, even without the knowledge of their parents.

With Saif enjoying the glory of love and Aaj Kal’s tremendous success, there are rumours that he had presented an expensive car to his lady love, Bebo, as a marriage gift.

According to reports, Bollywood sweethearts have exchanged rings in front of a Maulvi. But Saif Ali Khan has denied this saying that it is just a rumour.

Saif informed that they are not ready to enter marriage right now and that too without informing their parents.

Kareena has also made it clear that she does not want to get married for the next two years for the sake of her booming career.

But are they telling the truth?
Kareena Kapoor News

Kareena finds acting as her best pal!

Though her bewitching looks have gathered a great fan following by now yet the bold and the beautiful Kareena Kapoor has a lot more to do in order to prove her versatility in acting. Recently Kareena has bagged a distinct role of Desdemona in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Omkara movie which is based on William Shakespeare’s bestselling novel Othello. Kareena is quite excited about her new role and is really looking forward to it. Simultaneously her movie Dosti- Friends Forever is all set to hit the box office this Christmas. Dosti-Friends Forever is a film made by Sunil Darshan. The movie is all about eternal friendship between Bobby Deol and Akshay Kumar. Here Kareena plays Akshay’s love interest. In an interview Kareena said “Dosti is the story of the strong bond of friendship, where circumstantial consequences are such that Akshay separates from me and Bobby tries to reunite us. And there are many factors, which put their eternal friendship to test. How their friendship survives in this cruel world is the crux of this movie”.

When asked about her personal life, Kareena didn’t say much. She concluded the conversation by saying that she is very busy in her personal life as well and acting is her best friend.

Kareena, Ranbir Kapoor to revive RK banner!

After the male members of her family and her sister Karisma Kapoor, it's Kareena Kapoor who is carrying forth the fame and name of the Kapoor 'khandaan'. And now she has the support of her promising and handsome cousin, Ranbir 'Saawariya' Kapoor. Kareena is very keen on reviving her home banner, RK Films, named after her illustrious grandfather, the original showman, Raj Kapoor. Of course she will be helped in her endeavour by Ranbir!

While there are definite plans of a new venture under the RK Banner, with Kareena and Ranbir giving the 'in house' star power, no details are available as yet. But as always, we bring you the latest progress on the subject.

As per Kareena herself, she is listening to scripts and will give preference to an emotional drama. Why an emotional drama one may ask? And pat comes the reply from the pretty lass, because emotional dramas and characters are more popular with the audience, with more scope for histrionics. And of course, this is in keeping with the tradition of the RK banner.

Kareena Doesn’t Want To Romance Ranbir Kapoor On Screen

She is the czarina of Bollywood and he is the Prince Charming of B-town, who just finished romancing not one but three sizzling babes in his last flick ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’. Kareena Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, the two most gorgeous lookers in filmdom would have made a dashing couple had they not shared a blood relationship. But looks like that’s not going to stop Bebo from accepting a role opposite her first cousin.

From dating a father of two to now stating that she is open to play lover to her first cousin Ranbir, Kareena Kapoor is surely out to create outrage and scandal.

In a recent interview to a news daily, Miss Size Zero was asked if she would like play a lover on screen to Ranbir Kapoor, she said, “Ranbir is fantastic, he’s a brilliant actor. It’s so in his blood, he’s natural on screen. But I don’t know. Maybe Ranbir and I should do a film. Act as friends, perhaps brother and sister, but as lovers… maybe if the audience wants to see us that way. He’s hot and good looking, the best in the family, and I like interesting and different roles, I like taking risks, I’m ready to experiment. Jab We Met was different from Omkara.”

Sounds gross right? Well, we don’t know about Kareena but we are not looking forward to this unnatural pairing.

Kareena Saif Marriage Plans

Known for his Casanova image Saif has been completely bowled over by his ladylove Kareena and has decided to become one-woman man. The duo is so much in love that they aren't too conscious of even their public display of emotion.

Last night when Kareena was invited for the Filmfare cover launch at Vie Lounge, Juhu, she was accompanied by boyfriend Saif Ali Khan, who dropped her and came to fetch her once the event was over.

The couple pulled over in Saif's black BMW, and post the event headed to a suburbian 5-star hotel.

As usual, Kareena was comfortable dealing with personal questions posed to her by the media. When asked about her marriage plans, she said, "I am not getting married for the next five years."

An industry insider informs us that Saif is very possessive about Kareena. "He is madly in love with her and can go to any extend to prove his love. He also wants to express his commitment and marriage plans later on this year. But Kareena is on career high, and wants to enjoy her career and success."

Bebo chose to keep silent about her back stage meet with Shahid at the Star Screen Awards. She was also not comfortable talking about Saif's son, Ibrahim, whom she has been spotted with very often these days. After the launch and speaking with media she waited for Saif to fetch her. Exactly after twenty minutes, Saif arrived like a prince from a fairy tale book to take back his princess in waiting.

 Kareena misses her dad
Of late, Kareena has been bonding big-time with her Dad. And Randhir Kapoor couldn’t have chosen a worse time to be out of the country. Just when Kareena’s most important film is being released both her sister and dad are out of the country, hence their absences from the special screening on Tuesday night when Kareena invited just her family and no friends, not even best friend Amrita Arora.

Saif tried to keep her spirits up. But Kareena was undoubtedly missing her father. Of late Kareena has been bonding big time with her father. She has been keeping a tab on him by calling and inquiring about his diet and health, and visiting him as much as possible. And when Randhir Kapoor signed two films lately, his younger daughter was the happiest.

“He needs to work. He must work. He’s such a talented actor. I’ve inherited my comic timing from my father, which you can see in Kambakkht Ishq. I know he’d love me in this film,” says an emotional Kareena.

Kareena Kapoor desires ‘Love Aaj Kal’ to Break all records
Her fresh release “Kambakkht Ishq” has seen the most outstanding breach of 2009 so far. But Kareena Kapoor necessities boyfriend Saif Ali Khan’s “Love Aaj Kal” to smooth better her movies record in addition to take pleasure in phenomenal achievement at the box office.

“I really wish for ‘Love Aaj Kal’ to fracture all box-office proceedings. Yes, ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ is my pictures but then so is ‘Love Aaj Kal’. For both Saif as well as me ‘Love Aaj Kal’ is a not presently a prestigious development but also something which is very close to our hearts”, Kareena told.

Releasing on July 31, “Love Aaj Kal” is Saif’s original production venture. Tell her that probable are huge from the movie as well as Saif as well as she nods in conformity.

“Yes, I’m thoughtful about the huge potential and I also know that ‘Love Aaj Kal’ has curved out to be a lovely motion picture. The high-quality part is that the movie has generated all around positive vibes as well as everyone expects good things from the motion picture,” she said.

With Saif playing two characters – Jai Vardhan Singh as well as Veer Singh (the younger description of Rishi Kapoor) – “Love Aaj Kal” touches upon the widespread real meaning of love.

According to director Imtiaz Ali, “the development of relationship power is different in diverse eras, but the knowledge of being in love remnants the same”.

An additional feature that makes “Love Aaj Kal” an unexpected film for Kareena is the fact that it has Imtiaz at the driving seat.

“I have worked with Imtiaz in ‘Jab We Met’ and ever in view of the fact that then we all be expecting so much from him. He has enormous sensibilities of a storyteller and can’t set a foot wrong. I really hope and pray that ‘Love Aaj Kal’ manages to strike a harmony with audiences in the equal way as ‘Jab We Met’,”

Kareena Kapoor recently addressed a press conference promoting her latest film, 'Kambakht Ishq' starring Akshay Kumar as her co-star. All was going well, when one enthusiastic journalist asked her a question if she would be prepared to do a full nude scene if the role demanded it. Bas, this was it. Ms Bebo, as she is known in Desi Bollywood, stormed off from there without any explanations even as the reporters were left befuddled by her reaction.
Obviously, at a movie press conference, one would expect actors and stars to be witty and humorous.
Kareena Kapoor could have easily given a witty quip to the question and generated some laughter out of the crowd...but guess, she is too dumb for that.
Her action only gave the film some bad publicity and in these times when people are really averse to going to the cinema halls, it was damn risky of her to take such a step.
Her behavior was also a little baffling as it is not that she has not exposed herself in movies. on occasions, she has left nothing to the imagination for the audience, not that the audience really wants to see her naked, not the Indian ones at least...she has no big ones, you see...
What's the fuss about, you wonder, then!
Get real, Bebo!

Kareena Kapoor's New Love Latest Scene

Kareena Kapoor: The young Bollywood queen of Kapoor dynasty who is in news more because of her bold statements has gladly revealed in a latest interview that she is crazy for none other than our very own Shahrukh khan.
Kareena Kapoor's 'Yeh Mera Dil' song from 'Don' has become a huge hit, especially overseas. The song has Kareena trying to seduce Shahrukh in the jazzy golden outfit, looking ravishing as ever. In the UK, for example, the song blares on the Asian music channels literally ten times an hour, thanks to the excellent chemistry between Shahrukh and kareena.

Now Kareena is glad she did the song. She adds, "It got me noticed. My niece Samaira has become my biggest fan. She dances to the song and the minute she sees me, she starts singing it.”

Kareena Kapoor's ultimate dream is to do a love story with Shah Rukh Khan. Says Kareena, "Frankly speaking, I did the Yeh mera dil song in Don only because of Shah Rukh. When Farhan Akhtar offered me the song I wondered if doing a guest appearance was right for me. But the temptation for doing a song with Shah Rukh got the better of me. Whenever I look at Shah Rukh I go weak in the knees. I can't believe this is happening to me because I'd never thought any man on this earth was worthy of me, but Shah Rukh make me go berserk!!"

Who you are more close to - Amitabh Bachchan or Shahrukh Khan? " Let me tell you, there are no differences between both of them as far as I know and the talks are all rubbish. While I hold Amitji in high esteem, I am quite friendly with Shahrukh. It's not an issue with me that who I am close to between both of them".

Although Kareena is listening to scripts every day she has given her nod to only two new projects. She says, "I can't do run-of-the-mill films any more. I've done enough films without conviction and it shows in my performances. Unlike my sister Karisma, who could look convincing in any role, I've to be convinced to look convincing. That's why I've said yes to only two films Mani Rathnam's Lajjo and Zoya Akhtar's forthcoming film."
Mani's film has been pushed forward from January 2007 to April 2007. "Mani needed more time to prepare after Guru. So I've more time to prepare," says Kareena.
She's highly excited about working with a female director for the first time. "Can you believe, in five years of my career I've never worked with a woman director? I came close to working with Deepa Mehta once. But that's it. So I'm really looking forward to working with Zoya Akhtar."

About her pairing with Hrithik Roshan in Zoya's film, Kareena is nonchalant. "It was the script and not the co-star that determined my decision to do Zoya's film. I agree Hrithik and I have failed as a pair in some films. But that's because the scripts failed. I've never believed in a steady co-star. That's why I've worked with everyone from Ajay Devgan in Omkara to Rahul Bose in Chameli. "

You were recently quoted as saying that Shahid prefers his work to you. Is this be an indication of differences between the two of you? " I am proud to say that Shahid prefers his work to me. It shows how committed he is towards his work. I know him personally and I also know how fanatic he is about his career. He loves his work more but he loves me too".

Talk of Omkara brightens Kareena. "It's one film I'm truly proud of. I'm looking forward to working with Vishal Bharadwaj again. He's one of those rare directors who knew how to tap into my potential. I need directors like Vishal and Mani Ratnam to come forward and give me a chance. That's why I've taken a long break to get my act together. I don't want to look back on my career with any regrets."

Right now Kareena sees a bright raod ahead for herself, as she will be playing lead role under some cherished banners. Soon her movie with Soham Shah for Karan Johar productions will hit the screen. Kareena is thrilled about Soham’s film not just because this will mark her return to Karan’s productions but also due to her first performance opposite to John Abraham and is looking forward to working with Aamir Khan in Mani Ratnam's 'Lajjo'.

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor live it up in Delhi

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor hit a night club in Delhi Friday, October 5, for drinking and dancing. When a photog clicked Saif and Kareena hugging they bullied him and deleted the photograph.

8 October 2007 (Sawf News) - Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor hit a night club in Delhi Friday, October 5, for drinking and dancing. When a photog clicked Saif and Kareena hugging they bullied him and deleted the photograph.

Bollywood's newest item arrived Friday in Delhi where Kareena performed at an event. The couple, who were hosted in the city by Sunjay Kapoor, husband of Kareena's sister Karisma Kapoor, had lunch at a five star hotel in the city.

In the evening Sunjay Kapoor took them to a quiet dinner at a private room in China Kitchen.

Following the dinner they were in a mood to party and hit a new nightclub in the capital. They were joined by Amrita Arora and her boyfriend Usman Afzal.

In the VIP lounge of the night club the group popped a bottle of Champagne and began to loosen up. Kareena hit the dance floor and as she cavorted around someone played Yeh mera dil pyaar ka diwana… number from Don which livened her up some more.

At one point Kareena and Saif hugged and an HT photog captured them in his lens. Kareena, who noticed him doing so, walked over and grabbed his camera. Saif and Usman then deleted the pictures and handed back the camera to the hapless photog.

On their way out the imperious Kareena could not help gloating to the photog about their shameful bullying.

"Saare photos delete ho gaye na? Please delete kar dena aur mein next jab Delhi mein hoongi, aapko exclusive pictures doongi," she said in Hinglish.

Different Style in 'Kurbaan':
Kareena New Movie
She has played a prostitute, a bubbly girl-next-door and the ultimate glamour queen in her almost decade-long career, but Kareena Kapoor says "Kurbaan" has given her the opportunity to sink her teeth into one of the best roles in her career.

"I am so confident that in 'Kurbaan', audiences will take to my character in a big way," said Kareena, who looks forward to playing a variety of roles across different genres of films.

"Especially after 'Kambakkht Ishq', they would see a different me in the film," Kareena told IANS.

A Karan Johar production, "Kurbaan" is directed by first time director Rensil D'Silva and has terrorism as its background.

"The girl's role is very strong in 'Kurbaan' and I have worked really hard on my performance. I'm expecting a lot from the film," said the actress, who has won critical acclaim for her performance in "Dev" and "Omkara".

Kareena is paired with boyfriend Saif Ali Khan in "Kurbaan", which also stars Vivek Oberoi, Dia Mirza, Kirron Kher and Om Puri in principal roles.

The actress says she is once again expecting accolades from critics for her performance in the film.

"Well frankly, this is one film where I am expecting both box-office success and huge critical acclaim. The film is extremely well made and, to add to that, quite topical," she said confidently.

With music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Salim-Sulaiman, "Kurbaan" is aiming for a November release.

For Kareena, 2009 would be an eventful year as it would also see the release of Rajkumar Hirani's "3 Idiots", where she is paired opposite Aamir Khan, and debutant director Prem R. Soni's "Main Aur Mrs. Khanna" with Salman Khan.

After being in the industry for close to a decade, doesn't she aspire for more awards?

"See, ever since I began my career, I have always maintained that I want to be a star actress. I should give the kind of confidence to filmmakers that I can carry off any role confidently. Whether it is a Geet ('Jab We Met') or a Dolly ('Omkara'), Simrita ('Kambakkht Ishq') or the character I play in 'Kurbaan' - I am mixing it up all.

"For me, work is like a passion and when I do a film, I don't really think of commercial gains or awards. What is most important for me is to be engaged in some quality stuff. I sign a film because I like to enact the character that I have been offered. If box office success and awards come then, well, it's great,"

Kareena kidnaps Saif!

Kareena Kapoor whisks Saif Ali Khan off to an undisclosed location near Chicago for four days after his birthday

Kareena Kapoor is a doting girlfriend despite her packed schedule. She gifted Saif Ali Khan a secret vacation on his birthday yesterday. The duo spent some quality time at an undisclosed location near Chicago on Saif’s special day. After completing their respective professional commitments, they first spent some time with close friends. They also met Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif, who were also in Chicago, for dinner.

Interestingly, Saif and Kareena have gone for their secret rendezvous to an unknown destination near Chicago a day after his birthday. “Kareena planned the four-day holiday as she wanted to surprise Saif. They don’t want to reveal the location and will be back in Mumbai only by the end of this week,”

Kareena on Comedy TV

Kareena Kareena was a Zee TV comedy serial that aired from September 1, 2004 to 17 October 2005. To boost the show's popularity numerous celebrities have also made appearances on the show such as Abhishek Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, andRajeev Khandelwal.

Concept

The comedy is about a young Punjabi girl, Kareena who continuously tells lies that often get her into complex situations and tough circumstances where she needs to prove her "identity". She aims at shaping her own life by helping and in turn, getting help from her friends. The story takes off when Kareena moves to Mumbai to get a job as a secretary to the Chairperson. The dilemma is that if she couldn't find a suitable job in Mumbai, she would have to go back to Chandhigarh, and her mom Kanwal will get her married to their relative's boy Littu. But Kareena doesn't want to get married, so she plans to stay in Mumbai by applying at a job in a company called Chamatkar, which is owned by Tribhuvan Das Pandey and his wife Neelambhari Devi. Kareena comes to know that Neelambhari Devi is looking for a traditional and married woman as a secretary, so to get the job, Kareena goes to the interview dressed as a married woman. She gets the job! and there she meets her childhood friend Tanu and they have conversation together. Tanu tells Kareena that she has gotton a job as RJ at a company called 'Radio Curry' and she has to join in two day. Kareena feels happy for her, but a few days later Tanu calls Kareena and tells her that she is going back to Chandhighar and get marry to Kunal before he gets married to someone else. But she also can't miss her job because she signed a contract and if she doesn't start on time, she will have pay a huge penalty. So to cover her up, she wants Kareena to pretense as Tanu to take up the job, 'til she gets back from Chandhighar. To persuade Kareena to take up the job, Tanu offers her the 50% bonus that she was going to get when starting the job. Tanu also tells Kareena that since its a breakfast show, she will be able to get back to her job at Chamatkar. Since Kareena doesn't know anybody in Mumbai and she really needs the money, she takes the offer. Her dual role drama takes off now as she is constantly caught running between two jobs. As usual to any human being, Kareena also gets frustrated by doing two jobs. She is nearly thrown out of her job as she is now constantly late; Tribhuvan now openly supports the harried Kareena, which angers Neelambari obviously. To get away from Neelambari's taunts, Kareena introduces Prem (her producer at Radio Curry) as her husband, Mr. Sood.

Later, when things gets more complecated, Kareena feels that it is all over and she can't keep up with the lies anymore, she decides to quit from Chamatkar. As she walks out of the office, she bumps into Tushar, the handsome son of Tribhuvan and Neelambari. She falls for him instantly and to her horror discovers that he is Tribhuvan and Neelambari's son. And now she decides not to leave. Tushar falls in love with Tanu the radio RJ and lands up calling her almost every day to talk to Tanu. Where as Kareena loves the situation, her frustration at not being able to tell him when she meets him in the office that she is the girl he is in love with, leads to tear her hair apart. She discovers that he is in love with Tanu the RJ. She decides to introduce herself as Tanu the RJ and starts dating him. Kareena gets wind of it but can't say a word, as she will be exposed. Kareena's desperation for clearing up of her own mess increases as she sees Tushar falling deeper and deeper in love with the other girl Pammi. She knows she will never get her man this way. Her life turns upside down trying to hide her two avatars from her folks. Now what will happen in Kareena's life? Will she tell Tushar that she is Tanu who he loves, or she is Kareena who is actually unmarried!!!

Kareena Kapoor (Hindi: born on September 21, 1980), often informally referred to as Bebo, is an Indian film actress who appears in Bollywood films. Born into a film familywhere both her parents, Randhir Kapoor and Babita, and her elder sister Karisma were actors, Kapoor faced the media spotlight from a very young age. However, she did not make her acting debut until the 2000 film Refugee, which earned her the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. Her melodrama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham became India's highest grossing film in the overseas market in 2001 and is her biggest commercial success to date.

After receiving negative reviews for a series of repetitive roles between 2002 and 2003, Kapoor accepted more demanding roles to avoid being typecast, and consequently was recognized by critics for displaying greater versatility between 2004 and 2006. Her portrayal of a sex worker inChameli (2004) proved to be the turning point in her career and garnered her the Filmfare Special Performance Award She later received two Critics Awards for Best Actress at the Filmfare ceremony for her performances in the critically acclaimed Dev (2004) and Omkara (2006).

In 2007, Kapoor earned a Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance in the Imtiaz Alidirected romantic comedy film, Jab We Met. Although the box office earnings of her films have varied considerably, Kapoor has established herself as one of the leading contemporary actresses in the Hindi film industry. Kapoor's off-screen life is subject to wide media coverage in India with frequent press coverage of her and boyfriend, actor Saif Ali Khan and speculation of a possible marriage.

[edit]Early life and family

Born in Mumbai, India into the Kapoor film family of Punjabi Khatri origin, Kapoor is the youngest daughter of actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita(née Shivdasani). She is the granddaughter of actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor, great-granddaughter of Prithviraj Kapoor, sister of actressKarisma Kapoor and niece of actor Rishi Kapoor. According to Kapoor, the name "Kareena" was derived from the book Anna Karenina, which her mother read while she was pregnant with her. She is also often informally referred to as Bebo.

As children, the Kapoor sisters dreamed of becoming actresses. Kapoor was particularly inspired by Nargis and Meena Kumari. However, despite her family background, her father disapproved of women acting because he believed it to be incompatible with their duty to the family This led to conflict between her parents, and Kapoor's mother ultimately left her father. Kapoor was raised in Lokhandwala by her mother who worked several jobs to support her daughters until Karisma debuted as an actress in 1991.

Kapoor attended Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai before progressing to Welham Girls Boarding School in Dehradun. She studied commerce for two years at the Mithibai College in Vile Parle, Mumbai. However, she disliked her term there and studied only because she was close to her family.] Kapoor then registered for a three-month summer course in microcomputers at Harvard University in the United States. She later developed an interest in law and enrolled at the Government Law College in Churchgate. However, after completing one year at Churchgate, Kapoor returned to her initial plan to become an actress and began training at the Kishore Namit Kapoor's Acting Institute.

Career

Debut and breakthrough, 2000-2003

Kapoor was initially scheduled to make her debut in Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai (2000), opposite the director's son Hrithik Roshan. However, several days into the filming, she abandoned the project and later explained that "It was probably destined that I was not to be in the film. After all, it was a launch for his son. The whole focus was on the boy. Now I am glad I did not do the movie."

Kapoor made her debut later that year in J.P. Dutta's war drama Refugee. Set during the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971, the film centers on a man known simply as Refugee (played by debutant Abhishek Bachchan) who illegally transports civilians back and forth across the Indo-Pakistani border. Kapoor played Naaz, a Bangladeshi girl who falls in love with Refugee while illegally migrating to Pakistan. Her debut performance was acclaimed by critics; Taran Adarsh of indiaFM wrote, "Kareena Kapoor has a magnetic personality, which will make the viewer fall in love with her instantly. What surprises you is the ease with which she emotes the most difficult of scenes […] There's no denying the fact that she is a natural performer who is very camera friendly." Refugee was the fifth-highest grossing film in India in 2000, and Kapoor's performance earned her the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award.

Kapoor's first role in 2001 was in the romantic drama Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai, which became one of the highest earners of the year. A review in The Hindu noted that, "Kareena is definitely the actress to watch out for, if her debut with Abhishek in Refugee and now Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai are any indication […] Kareena shines throughout the flick, with the grace of a seasoned sizzler already." She next starred inSubhash Ghai's family drama Yaadein alongside Jackie Shroff and Hrithik Roshan. The drama centers on the character of Raj Singh Puri, a middle-class man and his daughters' marriages. Kapoor played the part of the youngest daughter and Roshan's love interest, Isha Singh Puri. Upon release, the film met with mixed critical reaction and garnered poor box office returns. Kapoor then appeared in the Abbas-Mustanthriller Ajnabee. The film, based on Consenting Adults (1992), was a moderate box office success in India.

Later in the year, she starred in Santosh Sivan's period epic Asoka, a partly fictionalized account of the life of Ashoka the Great. The film had a strong release in the United Kingdom and North America, and was screened at the Venice Film Festival and the 2001 Toronto International Film Festival. Featured opposite Shahrukh Khan who played Ashoka, Kapoor portrayed the character of Kaurwaki, a princess of Kalinga with whom Ashoka falls in love. While the film received generally positive reviews, Kapoor's performance received a mixed reaction from some critics.Rediff.com concluded, "While a large portion of the first half is focused on the emerging romance between the runaway prince and herself and to their credit they do manage to whip up some on-screen chemistry, I am still unsure as to her acting abilities". Nonetheless, her performance was praised by some critics and earned her a first nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards.

Kapoor's final release of 2001 was the drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, directed by Karan Johar. The film, which featured an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Hrithik Roshan, emerged as the second-highest-grossing film of the year in India and Kapoor's biggest commercial success, with a domestic total of Rs 490 million (US$ 10.09 million). It also performed well internationally and became India's second biggest Bollywood success of all time in the overseas market, earning overRs 350 million (US$ 7.21 million). Her performance as "Poo" was well-received by critics and earned her a Filmfare Best Supporting Actressnomination.

During 2002 and 2003, Kapoor experienced a slump in her career. She featured in six films — Mujhse Dosti Karoge!, Jeena Sirf Merre Liye,Talaash: The Hunt Begins..., Khushi, Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, and the four-hour war epic LOC Kargil — all of which proved critically and commercially unsuccessful in India. Kapoor's performances were often identified by many critics as unoriginal and repetitive, with little inspiration. They expressed concern that she was becoming typecast but these negative reviews were fundamental in motivating her to improve her integrity as an actress in subsequent years by accepting more demanding roles.

Turning point, 2004–2006

Following the negative period in Kapoor's career, 2004 marked the beginning of her work in more serious films, most of which would bring her critical acclaim rather than commercial success. Under the direction of Sudhir Mishra, Kapoor played a prostitute in Chameli oppositeRahul Bose. The film relates the story of a young prostitute who meets with a widowed investment banker and follows the development of their relationship as they share their devastating life experiences. Chameli received predominantly positive reviews and Kapoor's performance was generally well-received by critics, with the Indiatimes praising Kapoor's "intuitive brilliance" and stating that she had exceeded all expectations. However, another reviewer expressed concern that they found her portrayal unconvincing and excessively stereotypical, describing her as, "sounding more like a teenager playacting than a brash, hardened streetwalker" and likening her mannerisms to that of acaricature. Nonetheless, Kapoor's performance garnered her the Filmfare Special Performance Award and marked a change in direction in her career as an actress.

Kapoor then appeared alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Fardeen Khan in Govind Nihalani's critically acclaimed film Dev, which revolved around the 2002 Hindu-Muslim riots in the Indian state of Gujarat.Kapoor's role was that of a Muslim victim named Aaliya, modelled after Zahira Sheikh, a key witness inVadodara's Best Bakery case. The film earned her a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance, as well as nominations for Best Actress at various award ceremonies. Taran Adarsh commented, "Kareena Kapoor is first-rate. Sporting a deglamorized look, the actress takes a giant leap with this film. Her scene with Amitabh Bachchan (when the latter asks for witnesses to come forward) is an example of superb acting."

Shortly afterwards, Kapoor was cast in her first villainous role in the thriller Fida opposite Shahid Kapoorand Fardeen Khan. The film deals with Internet theft and the Mumbai underworld with which her character Neha Mehra becomes involved. Although the film failed commercially, Kapoor received positive reviews for her performance, with some critics noting a distinct progression from her earlier roles. Her subsequent releases that year included Abbas-Mustan's moderately successful thriller Aitraaz and Priyadarshan's comedy Hulchul, her first box office success since 2002.

In 2005, she starred in the Dharmesh Darshan directed drama Bewafaa. Kapoor played the role of the Indo-Canadian Anjali, who marries her sister's husband after her death, but is unsatisfied with the ensuing married life and resumes a relationship with her previous boyfriend. The film received mostly negative reviews and Kapoor's performance was not well-received.Nikhat Kazmi of Indiatimes believed that in an effort to become a serious actress, Kapoor was embodying a maturer, more jaded character ahead of her years in Bewafaa which appeared peculiar for a young girl of her age.

Later that year, she appeared in Priyadarshan's romantic drama Kyon Ki. The drama, set in a psychiatric hospital, relates the love story of a mentally ill patient, played by Salman Khan, and his physician, played by Kapoor. The film was a box office failure, though Kapoor's performance was generally well-received by critics, with the BBC reporting, "It goes without saying that she is a pure natural when it comes to acting." Kapoor then featured in the romance Dosti: Friends Forever alongside Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, and Lara Dutta. While not a success in India, the film became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2005 in the United Kingdom.

In 2006, Kapoor appeared in three films. She first starred in the thriller 36 China Town followed by the comedy Chup Chup Ke; both films performed reasonably well.[46] She next portrayed the Shakespearean character of Desdemona in Omkara, the Hindi adaptation of William Shakespeare's Othello. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the film is a tragedy of sexual jealousy set against the backdrop of the political system inUttar Pradesh. The film premiered at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival and was also selected for screening at the Cairo International Film Festival.] Omkara was well-received by critics and Kapoor's performance was critically acclaimed, earning her a fourth Filmfare Award and first Star Screen Award. Rediff.com concluded, "Her character is one of the hardest to essay, as she goes through love and awe, fear and bewilderment, defiance to her father and submission to her man. Kareena doesn't have the lines, but she has moments demanding powerful use of expression, and she delivers." Kapoor herself considers her role in Omkara as a "new benchmark" in her career and has made comparisons between her portrayal of Dolly and her own evolving maturity as a woman.

In 2007, Kapoor starred opposite Shahid Kapoor in Imtiaz Ali's romantic comedy Jab We Met. Relating the story of two people with contrasting personalities who meet on a train and eventually fall in love, Kapoor played the female protagonist Geet Dhillon, a vivacious Sikh girl with a strong zest for life. The film was received favourably by critics and became one of the year's most successful films, earning a domestic total of Rs 303 million (US$ 6.24 million). Kapoor won several awards for her performance, including a Filmfare Best Actress Award and her second Star Screen Award for Best Actress. Rajeev Masand from CNN-IBNnoted, "Uninhibited and spontaneous, Kareena Kapoor is the soul of this picture, its biggest strength, as she brings alive her character with not just those smart lines, but with the kind of candor actors seldom invest in their work."

Following Jab We Met, Kapoor featured alongside Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, and Anil Kapoor in the action-thriller Tashan (2008). Though an indiaFM poll named it the most anticipated film of the year,Tashan eventually became a commercial and critical failure. Kapoor next provided her voice for the character of Laila, the love interest of a street dog named Romeo, in the Yash Raj Films and Walt Disney Pictures animated film Roadside Romeo. It was the second Bollywood film to receive a North American release by a Hollywood studio. In preparation for her role, Kapoor viewed several Hollywood animated films to analyse how actors delivered their dialogues. Kapoor was criticised for failing to promote the film as she ventured into other projects.

Kapoor next starred in Rohit Shetty's comedy Golmaal Returns, the sequel to the 2006 film Golmaal. A part of an ensemble cast that includedAjay Devgan, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Amrita Arora, Celina Jaitley, and Anjana Sukhani, Kapoor played a distrustful wife who believed her husband to be unfaithful. The film received a mixed reception from critics and Kapoor herself received mixed reviews. The Indian Express believed the screenplay was unoriginal, concluding, "There is nothing particularly new about a suspicious wife keeping tabs on her husband, and there is nothing particularly new in the way Kareena plays it." Golmaal Returns was nonetheless a major financial success, with revenues of over Rs 500 million (US$ 10.3 million) domestically.

In 2009, Kapoor appeared in Sabbir Khan's romantic drama Kambakkht Ishq alongside Akshay Kumar. The film, which explores the relationship between two different individuals, became the first Indian film in history to be shot within Universal Studios Hollywood, California and featured several cameo appearances from Hollywood actors. Kapoor portrayed the character of Simrita Rai, a part-time supermodel and an aspiring surgeon. Upon release, the film met with negative reviews and Kapoor's performance was not well-received. The Times of Indiadescribed her performance as "a complete let-down" and further stated that "she comes across as a completely unconvincing supermodel cum surgeon." The film was an economic success nonetheless, earning over Rs 650 million (US$ 13.39 million) worldwide.

As of August 2009, Kapoor has completed filming for Prem Soni's drama Main Aur Mrs. Khanna in which she is to star alongside Salman Khan. She was cast as the lead in Rajkumar Hirani's Three Idiots, which began principal photography in July 2008. The romantic comedy film Milenge Milenge is also scheduled for a late 2009 release, having been postponed since 2005.

Personal life

Kapoor has been linked to several of her co-stars, but she has denied all these rumors.] In 2004, she began dating actor Shahid Kapoor, the son of veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor. While dating, their relationship was often reported in the media until the couple separated while filming Jab We Met in 2007. Although the parting was amicable, the press continues to report conflicts between the former couple and their new partners. In September 2007, during her breakup with Kapoor, speculation began surfacing that she was engaged in a new relationship with Saif Ali Khan. On October 18, 2007, during Manish Malhotra's grand finale show at the Lakme Fashion Week, Khan confirmed their relationship to the media. Their relationship is frequently reported on in the media, and is often subject to press contemplation of a possible marriage between the couple.

Kapoor is very close to her family and has resided with her mother Babita for much of her life. Kapoor and her mother lived together in Lokhandwala and then at Park Avenue in Bandra, Mumbai for several years, and in 2008 Kapoor and her mother purchased adjacent flats in Khar, Mumbai designed by Akshay Kumar's wife Twinkle Khanna. Kapoor says she is an avid reader and swimmer in her leisure time.

Kapoor's weight and diet have often been scrutinized by the media. In 2006, Kapoor declared that she was becoming a vegetarian to keep her weight in check. Kapoor has denied rumours that she is suffering from anorexia and has attributed her weight loss to yoga and a closely-monitored, balanced diet. When Kapoor lost weight and collapsed on set during the filming of Tashan in 2008, media speculation about her health was rampant. She dismissed the incident as a minor health scare.

In the media

Hailing from a family deeply involved in the film industry, Kapoor faced the media spotlight from a very young age despite not making her acting debut until 2000. As a child, Kapoor attended award ceremonies and events with her mother Babita and sister Karisma Kapoor, and would also accompany her sister on set during filming. In previous years, in response to media speculation, Kapoor had developed a nonchalant relationship with the media and gained a reputation for discussing her professional or private life with the press with few reservations.

During 2005, Kapoor made her first appearance on Karan Johar's talk show Koffee with Karan alongside Rani Mukerji, whilst two years later she appeared along with Shahid Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor. The following year, she appeared as a guest judge along with Priyanka Chopra on the singing talent contest Indian Idol 2. Several months later, Kapoor was chosen alongside actors Shahid Kapoor and Urmila Matondkarto model and walk the ramp for designer Manish Malhotra's fashion display, titled Freedom, during Fashion Week 2006. In 2007, Kapoor was among several Bollywood celebrities to perform at the opening ceremony of Kapil Dev’s Indian Cricket League (ICL) in Chandigarh. In June 2008, Kapoor modelled once again for Manish Malhotra's fashion display at the 2008 IIFA Fashion Extravaganza.

Kapoor annually features in many polls in the media. In 2004, she was ranked third on Rediff's "Top Bollywood Female Stars". She was later ranked seventh and fifth in 2005–2006 respectively, and came back to the third position in 2007. In February 2007, Kapoor appeared fourth on Indiatimes list of "Top 10 Hottest Actresses of Bollywood", and later that year, the actress was ranked eighth by the U.K. magazine Eastern Eye as one of "Asia's Sexiest Women". Kapoor has also won numerous vegetarian online polls, being declared the female winner of PETA India's "Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities" successively in 2007 and 2008. In March 2009, she became the only woman to be featured on Filmfare Magazine's annual "Power List", a list of the ten most powerful people of Bollywood.
